After his success in 2018 David decided to make the journey again to Saumur and Renswoude for CCI3* and 4* competitions.  The lorry was packed up again and with horses loaded, off they went.

In the Saumur Complet CCI3* short format Galileo, owned by Gillian Jonas, rose from 27th after dressage to finish in 3rd.  He jumped a super clear show jumping round, followed by a blistering cross country ride finishing within the time, one of only two horses to do this from a strong international field.  Carneyhaugh Rua owned by Jane and Ian James, and Dunge’s Don Perignon (pictured) owned by Alice and Tim Page were some way down the list after CCI4*L dressage and picked up some time faults XC but both horses show jumped well round a tricky track to finish just outside the top 10.

A complicated logistical operation then kicked in involving significant long distance driving and overnight ferries to facilitate the exchanges of horses in Calais, and they set off for Renswoude.

All three horses in the Renswoude Horse Trials CCI4*S – Jane and Ian James’ Eisfee, Gillian Jonas’ Shannondale Quest and Patsy Mason’s Mr HiHo – were all within two points of each other after dressage. Fabulous show jumping rounds resulted in all three being in the top ten going into cross country.  David and Shannondale Quest were pathfinders and Eisfee was last to go, which produced a very exciting day.  All  three had storming runs clear inside the time to finish in 2nd (Eisfee), 5th (Shannondale Quest) and 6th (Mr HiHo).  Galileo brought up the rear in the CCI3*L XC with an equally impressive round, was 5th overnight and finished in 3rd place after SJ.

An excellent fortnight and some fantastic results.  Very many thanks to the teams at Saumur Complet and Renswoude Horse Trials, and to all involved with the Reybridge team – owners Gillian Jonas, Jane and Ian James, Tim and Alice Page and Patsy Mason; sponsors Kate Negus Saddlery, Voltaire Design United Kingdom, Treehouse Sporting Colours, GAIN Equine Nutrition, The StoneHouse Clinic;  to Nick Turner for his guidance, supergroom Jade Roberts, the team at home getting the next lot ready, and Maggie and Claire Lintern for doing all the driving to swap the horses over.
