Haras du Pin, August 2018 – fifth leg of the Nations Cup.
With four horses running in the same competition (CICO3*) David (and Maggie, Jade, Molly) had a very busy few days out in France. Eisfee and Chap were placed mid-order after the first day’s dressage, with Carneyhaugh Rua and Dunge’s Don Perignon a little further down the list after day two. Team GB were in fourth place.
David and Eisfee were the Team GB pathfinders cross country and made excellent time, coming home with just 1.2 time faults. Three more quick rounds propelled the team up to silver medal position.
Meanwhile Chap skipped round bang on the time, making it look very easy, to be followed by the two eight year olds – Don and Roly – who ran steadily and confidently round their first 3*, clear but with a few time faults.
All to play for then at Sunday’s showjumping but disaster struck, with two Team GB horses being withdrawn on Sunday morning because of injury, dashing our hopes of a place. Such a great shame for all concerned but David still had a busy afternoon!
Roly was first up, who took a brick out of the wall and dropped a pole; Don had a very unlucky pole and a few time faults; Chap again showed how it should be done with a clear round, and Alice took the same brick out of the wall and had a big spook at the water tray. So no wins or medals but some excellent experience for the younger pair, and David was delighted with all four horses.
Next stop Blenheim for Don and Roly (and Ferro Point) in the 8/9YO CIC3*. Roll on September!
