After all the weeks of bad weather and unpredictability of events running or not, or half running and then abandoning, or cancelling one day but running another, the sun has finally come out in earnest and where better for it to shine than glorious Chatsworth House. We took two horses this year – Sarah Warden’s Man About Town (Teddy) to his first grown-up CIC*, and Jane and Ian James’ Eisfee (Alice) for the CIC3*.
Teddy’s dressage put him in the middle order overnight, and a few poles down SJ didn’t help his cause. However, he ran beautifully across county with only a few time faults and finished just beyond half way down the list. David was very pleased with his run and is looking forward to the next one!
Eisfee (Alice) was an absolute superstar. Her dressage test scored 30.5, putting her in 4th place overnight. Clear showjumping and tiny time faults had her in the lead after XC. Tension was high in the closing stages of the competition with everything hanging on the XC time, and finally Cathal Daniels and Sammy Davis Junior, despite a higher dressage mark and four jumping faults, went just that little bit quicker across the country to finish two points ahead of David and take the top spot.
Rider and owners were “chuffed to bits” with Alice, and David was quick to point out that this fantastic result was a real team effort, with input from Nick Turner, on site all weekend, Adam Kemp (dressage), the team at home and Jade Roberts for her fab grooming.
