It’s a long way to Pau, and taking a horse who doesn’t travel well is fraught with worry but Chap obviously knew what was at stake because he behaved impeccably.
Dressage put him some way down the order but the really big test was to come – his first 4* cross country course.
They had a few hiccups along the way with two run outs and consequent time faults but Chap came home still galloping and with his ears pricked at the end of a course that caused considerable problems, with several eliminations and lots of retirements.
Nerves were jangling on Sunday for show jumping but Chap once again pulled out all the stops and jumped a fabulous clear round – one of only six.
David was thrilled: “he was class today” he said, and this picture says it all. Well done Chap, well ridden David and congratulations both of you for achieving such a significant goal.
