What a great weekend at Bicton – beautiful weather, very well organised, and a win in the CIC2* for Gillian Jonas’s Shannondale Quest (JJ).  David said he was “super chuffed” with the horse, and Gillian was delighted, not least because Bicton is her local venue.  Read the Horse & Hound piece here.

The weekend started on Friday with four entries in the Intermediate class and Gillian Jonas’s Chap entered in the AI.

Christine Lees’ Ferro Point was first into the arena (37.3), followed by Jane James’ Carneyhaugh Rua (Roly) (37.1), Tim and Alice Page’s Dunge’s Don Perignon (35.7) and finally, Rainstown Star (Duncan) (27.1), so quite close between the first three, with Duncan just a nose in front.

Show jumping was round a big track, and caused problems for everyone, and our crew were no exception and brought down a few poles.  At this point, David decided to withdraw Duncan from XC because the ground was quite hard, and the others went on to finish 5th (Ferro), 15th (Don) and 17th (Roly).

Chap also scored well in his dressage (35), and show jumped clear but he, too, was withdrawn before XC because of the ground.

Unfortunately JJ‘s CIC2* dressage could not be scheduled on either Friday, or Sunday (with SJ and XC), so the lorry trundled up and down to Bicton on Saturday but was well worth the effort, as his test scored 43.4 and put him in 2nd place overnight.  Sunday brought yet another trip along the same route, a pole down SJ but no change in position, and David decided to go for it XC.  And it paid off.  They came home a second inside the time and into first place.  Fantastic result for this new partnership and very exciting for the future.
