With the early season being plagued by the weather, and events cancelled or abandoned, false starts and re-routing to alternative venues, it was exciting to complete all our entries at Bicton Arena this weekend (22-24 April).

The ground was in good shape, and the organisation excellent as usual, and David’s dance card was full to the brim – three in the Novice, three in the Open Intermediate, two in the 2* and one Open Novice.

Friday was the busiest day, starting at 8.30am with ON dressage, and from then on a round of changing tack and changing clothes to complete all three disciplines on Patsy Mason’s Mr HiHo (ON), Niki Ryan’s Kiltubrid Rhapsody and Shannondale Jasper, and Mark Milligan’s Bottoms Up III (Charlie) in the OI, and finishing with Gillian Jonas’ Chap’s Advanced XC at 17.49.

And somewhere in there, Gonçalo and Imperial Dancer (Rose) also completed the Open Novice with a good dressage score 30.5), one pole SJ and clear XC to finish 23rd.

Some respite on Saturday with just two dressage classes for the 2* – Jane and Ian James’ Eisfee, and Gillian Jonas’ Billy Pastime, both having their first run of the season, and full-on again on Sunday, with the 2* showjumping and cross country, and three entries in the final Novice class.

All the results are below.

Huge thanks to the Reybridge team for all the prep beforehand, and for making sure everything was plaited up and ready to load when required.  Top marks however go to Georgie Zebedee who won Best Turnout in the 2* – well done Georgie (pictured, left).
